It never ceases to amaze me how food can bring out amazing conversation, trust, tears, and laughter all at the same time.
Including Marshall and myself there are 4 other DTS staff on the base, and 3 support staff, as well as a few locals. I have really connected with two of the female staff, one is support, Alyssa, and one is a DTS staff member, Allyson. Last night it was Allysons turn to cook so I went into the kitchen to help her out and learn about what goes on in our kitchen. The conversation that we had was so great. We have talked a lot in general and gotten to know each other well, and I would consider her a friend already, but it wasn't until I had a butter knife in my hand buttering bread and she was working the stove that we really were able to have a truthful, honest, talk. At one point both of us had tears as we were so happy and appreciative for our new found friendship.
I have found it hard to not have a friend that I can talk to. Of course I have Marshall, but sometimes you just need that friend, that girl to talk to. I know that I am able to to that with some very solid friends back home, but its differnt to have someone in person, someone who can keep you accountable if needed. So its been nice to be able to form a friendship here that allows me to have that.
