ministry is a mother and her child....

This week we took our class outside, listening to a recording of a speaker named Dean Sherman. While sitting in the sun listening to him speak about Personal Effective Ministry something stood out to me. Perhaps its because I will soon be a mom, and have to be "on" 24/7/365 that what he said is now engrained in my mind.

 "A mother with her child is always on, Ministry is the same thing"

Being "in" Ministry is not a 9-5 job, it is a life style that you lead and live. Much like being a mom. Ministry is a lifestyle that you need to live. We are not called to do ministry or live in a Godly manner for 8 hours a day, we are called to live it 24 hours a day. 

Avoid worthless, foolish talk that only leads to more godless behavior. 2 Timothy 2:16

Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts. 2 Timothy 2:22

A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone, be able to teach, and be patient with difficult people. 2 Timothy 2:24

And I want women to be modest in their appearance. They should wear decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves by the way they fix their hair or by wearing gold or pearls or expensive clothes. 1 Timothy 2:9

These are just a few verses that come to mind with how I need to make sure that I am living a life that is honoring to God. I need to be watching what I say, and what my actions are. Not only do I need to do this so that I am a good example and leader to others but if I start making sure that I am doing these things now I know that I will be a good example to my children. If I know one thing it is that children, and youth will pick a lot up from the things you say and do, and people who you lead will denote you quicker than a gopher getting into its hole if you have failed in some way. It is my hope that I can start living by the above words daily, so that I am honoring not only myself, those around me, but most of all God.
