Press Play then continue to read.....

What happened to the days of wearing pearls, nylon stockings, zoot suits, fedoras, long dresses that didn't leave a lot showing, scarves, hats worn for formal and informal occasions, what happened to natural beauty, natural raw voices?
I often think about how our world has shaped us. I must say I often don't like it. Both men and women have changed immensely since the early to mid 1900's. Yes our world has changed too, wars have been fought, technology has grown, media has taken a different angle at sharing with us what is going on. I think about women such as Ella Fitzgarld, Billie Holiday, Eleanor Roosevelt, Rosa Parks, Lucille Ball, and Audrey Hepburn. These are women of class to me. Class in many different ways. Class in which I could only wish I had.
I wish, and perhaps hope that one day I can be just as bold, and fearless as Rosa Park, and Eleanor Roosevelt. That perhaps I could have such raw and natural talent from the likes of Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgarld, that I could be as humorous and fun as Lucille Ball, and that I could pull off a petticoat like Audrey Hepburn not to mention to use my fame as a way to promote humanitarian needs with organizations such as UNICEF.
Not only where each of these women gorgeous but they all were leaders in different ways, and made huge impacts on society then, and I believe even now. Even though most of the younger generations have no idea who any of these women are, they have all shaped parts of society today. I wish, however, we could have hung... clung onto those things even more. That we would still find irrefutable beauty in what these women and times represent. I hope that one day I could see the beauty, the raw beauty in myself that these women had, the fearlessness to be bold and brave, and that I could just be me without ever thinking for even a moment what someone else may think.

  1. Mallory, I'm reading the biography of Joan Baez...very inspirational ....activist, pacifist and musician all wrapped up in one amazing woman.
p.s. there is also such a thing as a 'walking mediation' -contributing to the world with kindness, thru activities that are caring and helpful even in the smallest form have a very large impact.
