Ah, the life of a Barista at Starbucks. I've been working at SB for 2 weeks now, and up until today I have only been on the till, and getting regular coffees because they were rolling out a new way to improve the making of drinks. So it has all been going well, and today I got to start on the bar!! I was so excited, because this meant that I could do something else then just stand behind the till, and the time went by so much faster! However I have found it quite interesting how when you taste coffee and then try some sort of food that pairs up well with the coffee how both tastes can change. The coffee can become taster with a well matched pastry. (Don't worry I am only drinking Decaf for all of you now shaking in your seats thinking I was drinking caffeinated, when I was told not to).
Now because I work downtown and I don't want to pay for parking so I park across the bridge and walk the 6 minutes. However when crossing this one road you now need rubber boots so that your shoes and pants don't get all muddy and gross. So the other day I worked during the day and then had an hour and a half until I had to be back at work for a meeting. So instead of walking at night in the dark through the back roads where its kind of creepy I thought I should go during my break and get my car and then park it by the mall and because it was after 6pm it was free parking. Well when walking across this very ugly road I miss judged the mud pit and sank right into it up to my ankles, so my shoes where muddy and so were my pants. Luckily I had an extra pair of pants in my Mary Poppins bag and so when I got back to work I put on my clean dark wash denim, thinking that it would be better to have a clean pair of dark pants on rather then a black pair of pants that were really muddy. Now company dress code is black or khaki pants, and I thought because the meeting was when the store was closed I was going to be okay in dark denim jeans, no go on that though. However I was over it, and I hope everyone else was to because I would rather be in clean then dirty pants and I was not the only one not in dress code.
You know when the wind is a nice breeze outside (for all you pet owners you will understand this) and your dog or cat holds their head high right into and just takes in the feeling of the wind?! Well my dog loves to do this, and she does it in the same way my old cat Ginger would have. They would have been best of friends, they both are so similar yet one is a dog and the other a cat. This morning I was sure Ginger was sleeping at my feet when I woke up, but it was Snowball sleeping the same way Ginger did. Sad.
The sun is shining and I am listening to some Jack Johnson and I think I need to go play with the dog out in the very wet muddy "snrass" (snowy grass) and finish cleaning my room.
Cheers,
Mallory
