Coming down

Well its that time again, when you look at the Christmas tree and realize that its time for it to come down. Sad. Christmas this year was a special one, it was our first Christmas married, and in a house. I wanted it to be special and wanted to create a new tradition.

One late afternoon Marsh and I drove 45 minutes outside the city to a Christmas tree farm, this year we were going to cut down our own tree. We pull up to a big red barn, and gather a saw and map of where we can cut. There were rows upon rows of trees, which one would we choose?

We were out for at least an hour trying to find the perfect tree. You would want to mark trees that you liked so we would lay down sticks in front of it but then two rows later and you've lost the tree. We ended up picking a smaller fat tree, one that which was not what we had thought we would get, but she looked good in our little living room. After some hot chocolate and talking with the owners of the farm and strapping the tree to the roof of my car we were off to the city once again to bring our Christmas tree home.
I was such a different experience, picking a tree out at the farm and cutting it down, it sure beat going to a tree lot and picking one that is all bundled up and you have no idea what it would look like once you got it home!

When we got home I don't remember how many tires we had until we got the tree sitting right in the tree stand, at one point it did fall down. Uhh the joys of decorating a Christmas tree!

Back at the house during the day we started to put up our outdoor Christmas lights, it took us about a week, and a walk made by Marsh 3 blocks down the street carrying a huge ladder that we borrowed from Enid and Gord. However after some cold weather, snowy faces, and frozen fingers we got them all up! It made me so happy.

There is something about Christmas lights on houses during the Christmas season. I had gone for a drive at one point and was amazed that only a few houses had lights up and on. What has happened? I remember going on family drives during Christmas and we would drive around just looking at all of the lights, and decorations. Where has that gone? I know that there is so much more to Christmas then lights but they are one of the things that I love during the season.

One thing I also realized this year was how much I value family at this time. Being at Marshall's families house this year was great, however I realized how much I valued and missed my small 3-4 person Christmas family times. However it was good even still, we were able to enjoy sleigh rides, and down time.

Loving a married life Christmas.

Marsh having fun cutting down the tree!
